The legend of Lake Engolasters

The Engolasters Lake, in addition to its natural beauty, holds one of the most enigmatic legends of Andorra.

According to the locals, in this place there was a town that disappeared under the waters as a divine punishment. The witches, who bathed in the lake at night, cast spells on those who dared to spy on them, turning them into black cats.

Although the mystery and the witches left the lake with the construction of the dam in the 20th century, the story lives on in the memory of the region.

Hiking Route

The route to Engolasters Lake is ideal for those looking for accessible hiking in Andorra. This route, just 2 km long and with a gradient of 408 metres, offers a pleasant experience with spectacular views. The starting point is the Automobile Museum in Encamp, and follows the GR-11, crossing streams and traditional huts.

The route takes approximately 2 hours: 1 hour and 15 minutes there and 45 minutes back. It is recommended from June to September, extending from May to October if conditions allow. An ideal plan to connect with nature in Andorra.
